Bajaber embraces the moment as Kenya gears up for CHAN
As Kenya prepares to host its first-ever CHAN tournament, winger Mohammed Bajaber remains calm under rising expectations. In an exclusive interview, the Kenya Police FC forward shares his mindset, team atmosphere, and readiness to step up for the nation.
As Harambee Stars prepare for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), winger Mohammed Bajaber is approaching the moment with quiet confidence and a clear sense of purpose: to represent Kenya with pride and deliver when it matters.
In an exclusive interview with The Eastleigh Voice, the Kenya Police FC forward - among the promising young players in the national setup - shared insights on the team’s mood heading into camp, expectations for the tournament, and how he handles the weight of the national jersey.

“We're already there mentally,” said Bajaber. “Physically, not yet, but we’ll get there.”
CHAN 2024 marks a historic first, with Kenya co-hosting the tournament alongside Uganda and Tanzania. It's a rare opportunity for locally based players to shine on a continental stage. But despite the occasion, Bajaber says the squad remains composed.
“There’s no tension,” he noted. “Body language is good, attitude is solid. Hopefully no one carries pressure into the games.”
One blow to the squad is the absence of FKF Premier League top scorer Moses Shumah, who will miss the tournament.
“We’ll definitely miss him,” Bajaber said. “He’s a good player, a goal scorer, one of the best in the league.”
With Shumah out, Bajaber is among those expected to step up. But he remains grounded, focused more on team success than individual accolades.
“I just want to represent the nation proudly and make everyone at home proud. Hopefully we can keep the country happy.”
Having made headlines in a previous national outing, Bajaber knows expectations are higher—but he’s embracing it.
“In football, whenever you do well, people expect more. Pressure comes with good things,” he said. “Of course I feel it, but I can handle it.”
As Kenya eyes success in CECAFA Four and CHAN 2024, Bajaber’s steady presence will be one to watch.
